It’s the night she won’t forget, her prom. She has
on her beautiful dress, her hair and make-up are perfect, she
looks stunning and now she is ready for one of the most magical
nights of her life. She feels like a princess that night, a night
like no other, one she will cherish for years.
Sponsored by Anton’s Cleaners, a family-owned chain of 44
stores in Eastern Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire, Belle of the Ball
cleans and distributes prom dresses to high school
junior and senior girls who would otherwise not have the opportunity
to attend their school’s prom.
In 2009, the Belle of the Ball
collection drive ran from February
1st to April 3rd. The goal was to collect ‘gently worn
gowns,' in a variety of styles and sizes. Local high schools,
colleges and businesses, small and large, as well as individuals
donated gowns. Gowns were then dropped off at any Anton’s
Cleaners or Jordan’s Furniture store locations. Dresses
were cleaned free of charge at Anton’s Cleaners stores
throughout the area. Over 6000 dresses were donated.
The drive culminated with the fifth
annual boutique on April 18, 2009 at Simmons
College in Boston. The day was filled with excitement as 140
volunteers assisted the girls in choosing their gowns, jewelry
and shoes as well as with alterations and repairs. Over 350 participants
left with a beautiful gown.
Since the program began in 2005, more than 1080 girls have received
beautiful dresses.
The program’s success is testimony
to the many supporting, promotional,
collection and in-kind partners.
